Storage and security¶
DMS stores documents on the local filesystem or in object storage, and can add validation and encryption around the file pipeline.
Storage¶
- Local filesystem — files stored on the application host or a mounted volume.
- MinIO/S3 — object storage for larger or distributed deployments.
Storage uses content-addressed blobs, so identical files can be deduplicated. Deleting a document decrements the blob reference count.
Validation¶
Uploads can be checked for:
- allowed extensions and MIME types;
- file size and storage quota;
- antivirus scanning (ClamAV, when configured);
- duplicate content.
Encryption¶
Optional encryption at rest depends on the deployment. Sensitive configuration fields can use Fernet encryption with key rotation. See Encryption and sessions.
Archive¶
Older documents can move to cold storage. The archive job and retention policy are configured by the administrator.
Troubleshooting¶
- Upload rejected: check the file type, quota, antivirus, and upload restrictions.
- Preview missing: check the preview service and the file type.
- Storage full: check System status and the storage quota.
