Document lifecycle¶
A document moves through a lifecycle from draft to active, archived, or deleted.
Statuses¶
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | The document is being prepared; it has a draft step |
| Active | The document is in normal use |
| Archived | The document is in cold storage |
| Deleted | The document is soft-deleted and can be restored |
| Locked | The document is temporarily locked |
Drafts¶
The upload wizard creates a draft that you can resume:
- Document — the file.
- Classification — repository, group, and type.
- Metadata — the metadata form.
- Confirmation — review and publish.
A draft appears in the Dashboard and in the Documents list until it is completed.
Active documents¶
An active document can be searched, previewed, edited, versioned, reclassified, and exported, subject to permissions. It can also be archived or deleted.
Deleted and archived¶
- Deleting moves the document to Deleted, where it can be restored or purged.
- Archiving moves it to cold storage. See Archive.
